Man charged with murdering his mother

A man has been charged with murdering his 64-year-old mother after she was found injured at her home.

Police were called at around 8am on Thursday to reports of an injured woman at a house in Strathleven Road, Brixton.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended. At the scene, Christie Eugene was found injured. She was taken by LAS crews to a South London hospital in a critical condition.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, she died at around 10pm. Her family has been informed.

Her son, Jason Phinn, 35, of Strathleven Road, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow.
