Man charged with rape after woman attacked

A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked during the early hours of a morning last month.

Michael Lawson, 55, of no fixed address, appeared in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, charged with rape.

He will next appear in custody at Southwark Crown Court on August 18.

The charge relates to an incident that took place during the early hours of June 17 in Soho, after a woman reported she had been attacked by a man.

The woman continues to be supported by specially trained officers.

Lawson was arrested on Friday following an investigation by detectives from the Central West Command Unit.
