Man convicted of fraud after claiming he lived in Grenfell Tower

A 37-year-old man has been convicted of fraud in relation to claims he made about Grenfell Tower.

Daniel Steventon, of  Brondesbury Villas, Kilburn, pleaded guilty on Friday at Isleworth Crown Court to one count of fraud by false representation.

Steventon claimed he lived in a flat with a genuine tenant of Grenfell Tower who died in the 2017 fire.

He told the authorities that he had been made homeless, and sought housing, services and financial support to the value of £75,225 as a direct result of the false claims.

At the time he made the claims, he was working as a pharmacist’s technician.

Steventon was interviewed under caution on August 2, and charged on April 25.
