Man jailed for ‘vicious’ homophobic attack in Brixton

A man has been jailed for assaulting two men in an unprovoked homophobic attack in Brixton.

Jabbard Mabounda, 31, of Crosby Walk, Brixton, was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Monday.

Cops identified Mabounda as the attacker by watching CCTV footage from the night of the assault, which took place in Brixton Road on August 19.

At around 10.30pm, two men were standing at a bus stop in Brixton Road after attending a Black Pride event. They were approached by an unknown man who punched them both in the head.

Both men, one aged in his 30s and the other aged in his 40s, were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Detective Inspector Pete Thompson said: “This was a vicious, homophobic attack committed against two men who were simply waiting at a bus stop.

“Mabounda is a violent person who has rightly been imprisoned for what he did.

“I commend the men who were assaulted for their bravery throughout the investigation.

“Homophobia has no place in our society and it will not be tolerated in any form.”
