Man rescued from blaze in five-storey block of flats

A man was rescued from a fire in a five-storey block of flats after the kitchen on the third floor caught alight.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters responded to the fire on Great Cumberland Place in Westminster.

The kitchen in the third floor was partly damaged by fire.

A man who lived in the building was led to safety by firefighters and there are no reports of any injuries.

Control officers took the first of six calls reporting the fire at 5pm and the fire was under control by around 5.30pm.

Firefighters from Paddington, Soho and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
