Millwall fans pay tribute to war dead after memorial is vandalised
Millwall fans laid wreaths of poppies at a war memorial after finding out it had been vandalised.
Lions supporters on their way to the club’s 2-1 home win over Blackpool on Saturday staged their own ceremony to remember war dead of the last century.
Youngsters Lola and Joe Pizarro paid their own tribute to the hundreds of Bermondsey soldiers who gave their lives in service of their country, to make up for the disrespect shown by the vandal.
One of the contributors said: “A friend of mine sent me a photo of the memorial last Tuesday morning. It had been badly burned .
“One of the boys reported it to [Southwark] council immediately and they came out and jet washed it .
“We had a whip-round amongst ourselves and went down Saturday morning and were joined by the British Legion and an ex-soldier.”

Absolute class. Pity the main stream media and Sky Sports are not interested when Millwall fans do this sort of thing
