Millwall ready to make The Den a vaccination centre to help combat Covid-19

Millwall are ready to make The Den a vaccination centre – with chief executive Steve Kavanagh expressing his surprise that they have not been contacted way before now.

Around 1.5million people have already had at least one dose of a vaccine to help combat Covid-19 – with the oldest and most vulnerable members of the population prioritised.

It is reported that the UK has now ordered 367 million doses of vaccines – approving a third one made by US company Moderna – to protect against the virus.

Kavanagh said: “With all the talk of vaccinations, and it being an important pathway for the whole country to hopefully get out of the current pandemic, football has always stepped up for its communities. This is no different.

“Millwall are part of that and I’m sure will step up if needed. We are here and ready to be used as a vaccination centre if the government want to get in contact with us then we’re ready to help and do our bit.

“I’m a bit surprised – I’d have thought football clubs, given their place in communities, have not been contacted months ago. But we are where we are. Let’s get on with things.

“If we can help then we are here, have the facilities and I’m sure we can make it work for the benefit of everyone.”
