Mitcham children get creative with designs
Pupils in Mitcham have been dubbed the most creative school-aged designers in London after drawing up their own building scheme.
The winner, Shree from Hackbridge Primary School, wowed with her house design which included a slide, waterproof grass and a garage to store aeroplanes, which impressed the judging panel at Redrow’s Millfields site in Mitcham.
The firm has now labelled Shree an “arch-tot” – and she could have elements of her design incorporated into a future Redrow London home.
Her school will receive artwork vouchers to encourage Shree and classmates to continue working on their creative ability and innovative designs.
Shree said: “I feel proud of myself. I hadn’t thought about becoming an architect before the competition, but I think I’d like to be one now.”
Lorraine Daniels, design technology lead teacher at Hackbridge Primary School, said: “It was a pleasure to partake in Redrow’s competition and to see how it encouraged the pupils to think more about the construction industry and the elements of art and design that it incorporates.”
