Motorist in custody after motorbike fatality
The driver of a car has been arrested and is in custody following the death of a motorbike rider in a collision in Wandsworth.
At around 12.30am today, officers on patrol attempted to stop a Range Rover on the A3 close to Roehampton Lane.
The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised. A short time later, the Range Rover collided with a motorbike.
Officers immediately provided first aid to the rider. The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were called to the scene.
Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the rider sadly died at the scene. Officers are working to establish this person’s identity.
The driver of the Range Rover has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, causing death by dangerous driving, theft of motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The IOPC has declared an independent investigation which the Met will fully support.
