Murder investigation launched after man, 47, knifed to death

A 47-year-old man was stabbed to death early yesterday morning.

A murder investigation was launched after police were called at around 6.50am to reports of an injured man in the Old Kent Road, Bermondsey.

Officers, London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service crews attended the scene, where they found a man suffering from knife injuries.

Despite the efforts of emergency services to save him, the victim died at the scene at around 7.30am.

A 54-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both were taken to South London police stations where they remain.

The stabbing took place inside a house close to where the victim was found by members of the public, the Met said.

A crime scene and cordons are in place and enquiries are under way to identify the victim and notify his family.

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, the Met said.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan said: “Early indications are that the stabbing took place inside a residential address.

“While we are keeping an open mind concerning motive, it does appear that those present at the address at the time of the stabbing were known to each other and that there is no wider threat to the public.”

A heightened police presence will remain in the area.
