Murder investigation launched as man, 58, dies three days after attack in home

A 58-year-old man died in hospital on Saturday after he was assaulted in a house three days earlier.

A murder investigation has been launched and two men have been charged in what the Met are calling an “isolated incident”.

Police were called to a house in Erwood Road, Charlton, on Wednesday at around 2.50pm, following reports that a man and a woman had been assaulted.

Officers found a 58-year-old man with injuries consistent with an assault and a 47-year-old woman who was suffering from minor injuries.

Two suspects, Radoslaw Brzezicki, 41, of Erwood Road, Charlton, and Marius Bruzas, 49, of Longmoore Street, Westminster, were arrested at the scene.

As the suspects were being arrested, the male victim became “seriously ill”, the Met have said.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he died as a result of his injuries three days later on Saturday.

His next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

Mr Brzezicki and Mr Bruzas appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident.

Brzezicki was further charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on the female victim.

At court, Brzezicki was remanded in custody and Bruzas was given bail. His next court date has not been set at this stage. Neither have been charged with murder.

A spokesman from the Met said: “At this stage officers are treating this as an isolated incident.

“It is believed those involved are known to each other.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information or any witnesses yet to speak with police are asked to call 101, ref 6211/22nov.”
