Nelson heading west to Swindon as he goes out on fourth loan
Millwall defender Sid Nelson will extend his learning curve with his fourth loan in two years as he goes out on loan to Swindon.
The 22-year-old defender spent the first half of last season at League Two Yeovil and the second half at Chesterfield – but could not help the Spireites evade the drop out of the Football League.
This time, his loan could be at the other end of the table – Phil Brown’s side narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the closing stages of the campaign.
Nelson, who comes from a Lions family, has been highly rated for many years at The Den and has already pulled the shirt on 38 times. But the academy product, who captained the youth team, has found it hard to keep a place since they dropped out of the Championship in 2015.
He signed a one-year contract at Millwall in June but will spend the first half of the season at the County Ground.
The signing of Murray Wallace from Scunthorpe United and Byron Webster returning from a long-term knee injury were expected to make it hard for him to hold down a first-team place at The Den.
