Notting Hill carnival: Man charged after chef left in critical condition from assault

A Swedish chef is in critical condition after being attacked near Notting Hill carnival on Monday.

Mussie Imnetu, 41, the head chef at the Arts Club in Dubai, was attacked at the Dr Power restaurant in Queensway at around 11.20pm.

Omar Wilson, 31, of Napier Road, Leytonstone, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning on suspicion of attempted murder. 

Yesterday, he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.

The Met said that officers patrolling the carnival were made aware of a man who was unconscious with a head injury. The officers provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived, the force said.

Mr Imnetu was taken to a west London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. 

The chef, who has worked under Alain Ducasse and Gordon Ramsay, was visiting London on a business trip.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command unit continue to appeal for anyone with information about the incident, or Mr Imnetu’s movements earlier in the day, to come forward.
