Peckham dad of Clapham South Tube station murder creates foundation to prevent knife crime

The father of tragic Clapham stabbing victim tomorrow launches a charity to help tackle youth violence.

Malcolm Mide-Madariola, 17, was stabbed to death outside Clapham South Tube station in November last year trying to protect a 15-year-old he hardly new.

His father Olumide has now launched a charity to help tackle youth violence and provide more opportunities for young people across London.

Mr Madariola, a public safety practitioner, hopes the Malcolm Mide-Madariola World Foundation will help educate young people on the dangers and impact of violent attacks – as well as providing opportunities for them to start building a positive future.

He will launch the foundation at the Phoenix Community Centre in Upper Norwood from 4pm tomorrow, Saturday June 8. There will be a panel discussion on violent crime and youth safety with representatives from local schools and colleges. Malcolm’s family will share their experiences and there will also be a reading of supporting messages from Prime Minister Theresa May and the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Mr. Madariola said: “Far too many families have had to suffer the life-changing and deeply painful consequences of these violent and tragic attacks.

“We want to use our experience as a family to help provide more education to young people on the real impact of their actions to try and ensure that other families don’t have to suffer as we have.

“We want to help provide young people with more opportunities to help build a safer and more promising future for themselves, away from violence.

“We all must do something to stop the madness and this is just our quota.

“Our event this weekend will mark the launch of a charity which will also mark a celebration of the life of Malcolm, who would have turned 18 on May 1.”

Malcolm Mide-Madariola was stabbed to death with a hunting knife outside Clapham South station in November 2018.

Last month a 17 year-old boy was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey and will be sentenced on July 5. At his trial the court heard how young Mide-Madariola was stabbed three times, including once in the heart, after violence flared following a college dispute two days earlier.

The court was told that Malcolm was an innocent victim and had been bravely standing up for his school colleague- a young 15 yr old he barely knew for six weeks .
