Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar help reopen M&S at Waterloo station

A high street supermarkets‘ most popular treats opened its brand new store in one of London’s busiest train stations yesterday.

After a year of waiting, London Waterloo commuters now have their Marks & Spencer’s (M&S) back following its closure to allow developments to the station.

The M&S London Waterloo team gathered at the store entrance yesterday with special guests – Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar – to cut the ribbon.

The London Waterloo store is the retailer’s biggest and busiest travel location. 

After reopening, the new M&S includes a larger bakery as well as an on-the-go selection of hot food and coffee machines. More tills have also been added to speed up the checkout process.

For customers with more time to shop, the store also now offers an M&S clothing and gift selection on the first floor.

The relaunch at Waterloo follows recent wider M&S store development in London, with the retailer earlier this year announcing a £12.5million investment in the capital and the creation of 200 new jobs with the opening of a new store in Purley Way, Croydon and an upcoming new M&S Foodhall in Earlsfield, Wandsworth.

Store manager, Dharmen Gunnasaya, said: “We know lots of people have missed us over the last few months, so we’re thrilled to be back open in Waterloo station today with a brand-new look and lots of new store features.

“The last few weeks have been spent putting the finishing touches to our new store and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone in the team who has worked so hard to make sure everything is ready for our big opening day.”
