Police chase leads to firearms discovery and two arrests
A Met investigation into a domestic assault has led to the recovery of two firearms – one from an address in Lewisham – and a man being charged with firearms offences.
In the early hours of February 3, officers spotted a BMW car linked to a man who they wanted to trace in connection with an assault on a woman in north-west London.
The car failed to stop for police. A bag was thrown from the car in Plough Way, near Surrey Quays railway station and a short time later two people made off from the car on foot.
Although they managed to get away, a loaded firearm was safely recovered from the bag. Enquiries continued and a search of an address in Lewisham on Friday of last week led to the recovery of a second loaded firearm.
Two men were arrested. One of them, aged 24, was subsequently charged with offences including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition.
The second man, aged in his 50s, was bailed pending further enquiries.
