Police Constable sacked for harassing and stalking ex-girlfriend
A serving Met cop has been dismissed without notice for harassing his former partner and causing criminal damage by slashing her car tyre.
A misconduct hearing, which concluded on January 13, found gross misconduct was proven for PC Sean Denny.
Mr Denny was attached to the Central South Command Unit, which covers Southwark and Lambeth.
Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, in charge of policing in Central South, said: “PC Denny subjected a woman to consistent messages long after she ended their relationship.
“Instead of respecting her wishes, PC Denny bombarded her with messages and calls and I have no doubt his persistent behaviour had a significant negative impact on her.”
The hearing heard that between December 2021 and June 2022, Mr Denny harassed and stalked his former partner when their relationship had ended.
On one occasion, Mr Denny used an anonymous profile to try and follow her on a social media while also attempting to befriend the woman’s family in an attempt to maintain contact with her.
In January 2022, a complaint was made to the Met’s Directorate Professional Standards, an investigation was launched, and he was placed on restricted duties.
The hearing earlier this month found PC Denny breached the standards of police professional behaviour for discreditable conduct, authority, respect and courtesy, and equality and diversity.
He will now be placed on the College of Policing barred list meaning he cannot serve as a police officer or a number of other related roles in the future such as local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
DCS Adjei-Addoh said: “The Met is determined to rid the organisation of officers who display behaviour that does not meet the high standards we demand.
“We have committed to improve our service to women and girls in London and it is incredibly disappointing to see an officer fall so short of these expectations and standards.”
