Police investigating fire after detached house wrecked by blaze

The Met are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed the ground floor of a house last night.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters were called to the blaze at a detached house under renovation in Baring Road, Lee.

Part of the ground floor was destroyed by fire, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said. No injuries were reported.

At the scene, Sub Officer Ian Lewington said: “Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked extremely hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.

“Due to the renovation works, some parts of the floor were missing and made manoeuvring around the property considerably challenging.”

The LFB were called at around 9.15pm and the incident was over by around 9.50pm.

Fire crews from Lee Green, Lewisham and Bromley fire stations were at the scene.
