Police launch murder probe after man, 30, knifed to death in Brixton
The Met have launched a murder investigation after a 30-year-old man was knifed to death in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Cops were called to reports of a man suffering a stab injury in Brixton Road, Brixton at around 5.10am.
Police and London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A LAS spokeswoman said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew and a paramedic in a fast response car. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first paramedic arrived in less than one minute.
“Despite the best efforts of our crews to save his life, a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, the Met said. A crime scene at the junction with Coldharbour Lane remains in place.
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was later released with no further action in relation to the murder but remains under investigation for handling stolen goods.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this devastating time.
“I understand the shock and concern this incident will have on the Brixton community.
“My team are already working diligently to gather evidence and establish what led to this tragedy. I would ask any local residents with concerns to speak to officers at the scene, or to their local neighbourhood policing teams.
“If you have any information that could assist this investigation, I would urge you to get in contact immediately. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area between 04.45hrs and 06.00hrs and may have seen something.”
Cops say enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, posted on X: “I’m devastated that a young man lost his life in a stabbing on Coldharbour Lane in my constituency this morning.
“My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.”
Bell Ribeiro-Addy also took to social media in the aftermath of the stabbing.
The Labour MP for Clapham and Brixton posted: “Deeply saddened to hear that a man was stabbed to death in Brixton in the early hours of this morning.
“A large stretch of Coldharbour Lane is closed whilst investigations continue, with significant traffic along Brixton Hill as a result.
“Steer clear of these roads if you can.”
