Politicians turn up to give out some advice and support to A-level students in Lewisham

It was a big day for sixth formers at SFH6 – where students from Sydenham and Forest Hill schools do their stuff – and they had some visitors today who were mindful of just how important a day it was.

Ellie Reeves, MP for Lewisham West and East Dulwich, and Councillor Amanda De Ryk both attended the Dacres Road, Sydenham, sixth form to speak to the young people about their A-level results and their next steps.

It was a good opportunity for some photo-calls as well as those conversations about the future.

Brenda Dacres, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “I would like to congratulate all the students across the borough who received their A-level and BTEC results today.

“Everyone should be proud of their determination, perseverance and hard work after what has been a challenging few years.

“Not to be forgotten are the fantastic teachers and education staff for their commitment and dedication to bringing out the best in Lewisham’s young people.”

The council has issued a reminder that Lewisham students can contact the town hall’s Baseline service, which offers free and impartial careers support and advice about options to young people aged 16-18 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs).

They can be contacted by email at baseline@lewisham.gov.uk.

The Baseline team is also holding an event next week for young people who have received their exam results.

Young people who want to speak to someone about their options are welcome at the Civic Suite, Catford Road, Catford on Thursday, August 22, 11am-3pm. No need to book – just turn up.
