Possible human remains found in Croydon park

Possible human remains have been found in a Croydon park.

Forensic officers from the Met were seen trawling Rowdown Fields in New Addington with sniffer dogs yesterday after being called to the scene at around 9am.

Police have said the remains will now be sent away for full analysis.

Supt Lewis Collins said: “We are aware of the concerns within the local community following the discovery of possible human remains in the Croydon area.

“While our investigation is still at a very early stage, I would ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances and we will update you as soon as we have further information.”

Supt Collins said the force will be carrying out a number of inquiries over the coming days.

It is not the first time human remains have been found in the area.

Crystal Palace Park was cordoned off on October 4, 2023, after reports of possible remains being found.

But, in December 2023, police revealed that the remains were “material from a placenta”.

Police identified the mother and child and concluded that no offences were committed.
