Prize winning Barman Karol will be mixing it with the best in the US

A barman who won a cocktail-making competition will be flown to the US and given the chance to showcase his creativity to the world.

Karol Perz, from Waterloo, named his prize-winning drink “Uncle Sam’s 21st Century Cocktail”.

Regional winners from London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Leeds will be flown to New York City on an all-expense paid trip to compete in the international final on July 31.

Mr Perz said: “I didn’t expect to win the regional heat, so I’m truly elated.

I’ve never had the chance to go to New York, or even the US, so for me as a mixologist this is truly something special.

“I’ll be finessing my cocktail over the coming weeks so that I’m ready to go come July.”

The overall winner will have the opportunity to experience working in one of the top bars in America.

The final will be judged by “gin master” Simon Buley of Caorunn Gin, and other noted mixologists.

This competition has been run by Caorunn Scottish Gin.
