Pub back with a bang after pandemic
By Regina Motalib
A pub’s popular themed nights have returned, bringing pre-pandemic joviality back to the boozer.
The Alleyn’s Head in Pak Hall Road, West Dulwich had to put its events on the back-burner due to Covid restrictions.
But earlier this month, a sold-out psychic evening featuring Amber Elise Valentine welcomed back a varied clientele which the pub is known for.
As well as regulars, Amber – who has worked as a psychic and presenter on Psychic TV – also attracted people from further afield.
Amber started her psychic evenings at The Alleyn’s Head in 2018 while she was collaborating with the Paxton Time Bank charity.
She donated proceeds from her sold-out evening to the charity. She said: “It was great to be back at the Alleyn’s Head after such a long time.
“The pub has a terrific atmosphere. It was great to see people enjoying a sociable evening after such challenging times.
“This type of event is close to my heart as I’m able to support a charity which helps older people who are struggling with loneliness and isolation.”
The Crystal Palace-based charity Paxton Timebank has more than 900 clients who may be physically disabled and suffering from mental health issues.
Robert Cole, 51, general manager at the Alleyn’s Head, said: “We always find Amber’s nights at the Alleyn’s Head are well-attended.
“She brings a different sense of occasion to the pub, and different clientele that wouldn’t always be regular, and we have a chance to showcase our offer.
“It’s great the pub is being used for as many different occasions as possible, and it is good to see it maintaining a busy period after such a long time of not really knowing what is happening with the hospitality sector.
“One thing Covid has shown us is we need to evolve into a multi-use establishment that is safe, value for money and give the best guest experience possible in the area.”
