Public consultation launched for revised Elephant & Castle development

Build to rent company Get Living has set out revisions to proposals for the west site of the Elephant and Castle Town Centre development.

The project was given consent in 2019 to build on the current site of the London College of Communications (LCC). But, regulatory changes relating to building safety and sustainability required changes to the scheme.

Following a first round of public consultation in July this year, which saw more than 200 members of the community attend, Get Living has further developed its plans.

The updated proposals include 507 homes, of which 49 will be affordable rent and 116 at social rent, new student residential units, changes to the proposed architecture, landscaping and upgrades to the link between Elephant and Castle and the extended Pastor Street.

Get Living is looking for local community input, with two drop-in consultation sessions set to be held at The Castle Centre in St Gabriel Walk on  October 22 and 23.

Both sessions will run from 3pm until 7pm with an online webinar also held on October 24 from 6pm until 7.30pm.

Rick de Blaby, chief executive at Get Living, said: “We were encouraged by the level of engagement and feedback we received, and the recognition from the community and stakeholders of the benefits that our proposals will bring to Elephant and Castle.

“We take our responsibility to create a new future for The Elephant incredibly seriously, so we look forward to working in partnership with the community to bring our bold new vision to life in a way that benefits all stakeholders.”

The developer is currently progressing with the construction of the East site, set to be completed in 2026, which will provide 135,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, 55,000 sq ft of workspace, 485 homes and new transport infrastructure, alongside a new state-of-the-art university building for LCC.

LCC is expected to move into its new campus building in September 2027 which will result in the West Site becoming vacant from January 2028 and works will commence shortly after.
