Public detain man after an alleged ram-raid on Shepherds Bush jewellers

Members of the public managed to detain a man allegedly involved in a ram raid on a jewellers.

At around 5.20pm on Friday, police were called to Uxbridge Road, Shepherd’s Bush after a car was driven into the front of the store.

A group of men got out of the vehicle and used large metal poles to smash into display cabinets and snatch jewellery items.

Sledgehammers and knuckledusters were used to threaten those working in the shop, and witnesses.

One man, aged 34, was arrested on suspicion of robbery after being detained by members of the public, who held him to the ground until police arrived.

He has subsequently been charged with robbery, dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon, theft of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen goods.

A video subsequently shared on social media appeared to show three people wearing motorcycle helmets run out of eSmart Money and Sultan Jewellery, a combined foreign exchange and jewellery business.

Efforts are being made now to identify and find other suspects who fled the scene just before police arrived on the scene.

Detectives from the Met’s Central West Robbery Squad are leading the investigation.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC quoting CAD 5782/25 Oct.

In particular detectives are asking for anyone who may have obtained footage of the incident to contact them immediately.
