Railway bridge replaced in Croydon

Over Christmas a railway bridge in Croydon was replaced to reduce the risk of cars bashing into it in the future.
Network Rail staff worked on Christmas Day and the following days to replace two decks on the Selsdon Road bridge, which is used by Brighton to London trains.
Work was made more challenging with social distancing having to be observed, and to help with this Covid marshals were appointed.
It includes the replacement of track sleepers and running rails.
It is one of hundreds of bridges that are being refurbished or replaced across the route, a project costing £112 million.
Route director Shaun King said: “The bridge lift at Selsdon Road went very well with the team working extremely hard over the weekend to complete the installation. We also thank local residents for their patience and cooperation while this activity was under way.
“The new bridge delivers a stronger and more robust structure which will better serve the community and the railway for many years to come.”
