Sauna and steam room ‘destroyed’ after fire breaks out in block of flats

A sauna and a steam room were “destroyed” in a fire that broke out in the basement of a block of flats last night.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the blaze in Ashburton Place, Mayfair.

No injuries are reported by the London fire brigade (LFB).

The LFB was called at around 7.50pm and the incident was over by around 9pm.

Fire crews from Dowgate, Chelsea and Paddington fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesman from the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is accidental and due to combustible items being stored too close to a heat source.”
