School celebrates ‘innovative learning environment’

Ivydale children, staff and guests celebrated the opening of their new building in Inverton Road recently.

Author and illustrator Julia Woolf, whose picture The Fox in the Forest was the inspiration behind the RIBA award-winning design, led workshops with the children before presenting a signed copy of her picture to members of the school council and Headteacher, Helen Ingham.

During the opening ceremony the school, which is based in Nunhead, thanked Southwark council for its commitment to providing outstanding school buildings and also architects Adam Cossey and Shoko Kijima of Hawkins Brown for designing such an innovative learning environment.

Children also had the opportunity to show invited guests, which included MP Harriet Harman and councillors Vicki Mills and Renata Hamvas, around.
