Signs for restricted zone to be reassessed after Croydon man warns drivers with sign

Engineers will be sent out to traffic signs after fierce backlash from locals who claim the cameras and signs are not easily seen.
Croydon man Ricky claims he managed to stop 50 drivers getting fined from going through a restricted zone in just two hours on the afternoon of Thursday, December 2 and another 101 the following day.
He claims that signs telling drivers they could face a fine are not clear enough.
Drivers will be fined £65, or £130 if not paid within 14 days, for entering the road outside Harris Primary Academy from 8-9.30am and 2-4pm.
Ricky, 55, stood in the road with a sign reading “£65 fine if you enter”.
But now, Croydon council says it will send out people to have another look at the controversial signs.
A spokesperson said: “The signage in this area is legally compliant, and there is no requirement to implement advance warning signs.
“However, in response to recent enquiries from local residents, engineers will be visiting site in the coming days to review the signage and assess whether or not further amendments are required.”
Ricky hopes this means that extra signs leading up to the restricted zone will be introduced.
But he is still sceptical about the whole scheme.
He said: “It doesn’t solve the issue, at 3.30pm when all the kids and parents are walking down the road, what I’ve witnesses is an accident or death waiting to happen.
“I believe the barrier system would protect the public and they could have a permit scheme for residents.
“Them saying the signs are compliant is rubbish.
“I stopped 101 cars in four hours. It is clearly revenue based.”
He now plans on warning drivers against driving through Haling Road every day.
Ricky added: “I’ve got to go down there every day, I am getting so much backing from the residents, I’ve even got a school mum today who is going to bring me a hi-vis jacked.
“I’ve had drivers nearly in tears because I’ve just saved them £130 so close to Christmas.”
