Southwark protest against rising food insecurity

A campaign group will tomorrow protest against rising food costs.

Right to Food Southwark will meet at noon at the Bandstand in Southwark Park where, there will be speeches from campaigners.

The protest will then march to Peckham Square for a rally with MP Ian Byrne, assistant general secretary of the Unite union Steve Turner, and Unite representative Sarah Liles.

Right to Food Southwark’s protest comes after a year in which food insecurity has doubled and food prices are rising by nearly 20 per cent.

A spokesman from the campaign said: “Right to Food Southwark believes we have to follow the example of unity in action given by the trade unions who are striking so they can afford to feed themselves and families.

“We are linking with the unions and organising in our communities to try to ensure no one goes hungry and that we win the Right To Food.”
