Special Constable convicted of sending indecent pictures and films

A police officer who was convicted of sending indecent images to a woman remains on duty.

On Monday, Constable Matthew Collins, attached to Central West basic crime unit, pleaded guilty to sending images and films of an indecent nature.

A charge of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress was also ordered to lie on file.

In February 2019, Collins was arrested after a woman reported he had sent an indecent picture of her to her friend from her phone. He denied the offences and was bailed until trial.

He will be sentenced on June 1.

Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, who oversees policing in Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea, said: “The Commissioner has been clear that we expect every single one of our officers, including our special constables, to uphold the highest of standards.

“To secure both the confidence and trust of the public, we need to better protect our integrity by identifying those that seek to corrupt us.”

Mr Collins remains on restricted duties and misconduct proceedings will now follow.
