St Patrick’s Day’s dance floor pops-up on the South Bank

A sustainable dance floor today popped up on the South Bank riverside to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Tourism Ireland has created an outdoor pop-up dance floor to give commuters, tourists and passers-by a place to get their toes tapping and create energy as they celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

The light-up dance floor is powered by the dancers’ footsteps, which generates energy to light up the green kinetic tiles, along with a screen showing some of Ireland’s beautiful landscapes.

Irish dancers will be on the dance floor during the morning, helping generate the electricity required to light up the dance floor and screen, and passers-by will be welcomed to dance throughout the day.

The green dancefloor will be accessible at the Southbank Centre, The Queen’s Walk, South Bank until 1pm today.

Siobhan McManamy, Director of Markets at Tourism Ireland, said: “Our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of Londoners and to convey the message that Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun.”

“This St Patrick’s Day, Tourism Ireland is also launching our new campaign – Fill Your Heart with Ireland – which showcases the fantastic wealth of experiences to be had on the island of Ireland, from beautiful landscapes and coastline to amazing food and the friendly, welcoming people.”
