Student artwork projected on to side of former bank building

An artwork created by university staff and students has been projected onto the side of a former bank building.

The event was part of the closing showcase of an annual exhibition at University Greenwich’s Stephen Lawrence Gallery.

Created by students of the BA Graphic and Digital Design and the BA (Hons) Animation, the collaborative mural was led by Francisco Mendez-Moyano.

Projected from the university’s Stockwell Street building, the work shone across the train tracks and the market to be reflected on the side of the old Natwest building in Greenwich Church street.

The projection marked the end of the university’s Sound and Image festival which featured an exhibition curated by David Waterworth.

Among the artworks shown were Professor Louise Owusu-Kwarteng’s undergraduate research project ‘Our Kid from the North of the South of the M1 River’, created in collaboration with staff and students of the BA (Hons) Animation.

Artworks by students from the MA Digital Design, BA (Hons) Animation and BA Graphic and Digital Design were also on display.

Olive M Gingrich, Programme Lead – BA (Hons) Animation said: “It was wonderful to see such a wealth of staff and student collaborations in this public-facing way.

“The University of Greenwich has built a global reputation for its inclusivity, and events like this one are shining examples of these collaborative arts practices.

“My feeling is that the event will be remembered by all participants for a while. A big thanks to our Head of School and all those who contributed!”
