Students at specialist school master hair cutting skills on teacher

Students at a specialist school enjoyed a hands-on experience of hair cutting after a teacher bravely put himself forward for a trim.

Vanguard School in Lollard Street, Kennington, is part of the Liberty Academy Trust of specialist autistic schools.

Last week students got to hone in on their hair cutting skills using their teacher –  Zarko Zahariev – as a model.

The experience came a week before aspiring Hair and Beauty students at Vanguard School will attend a specialist careers fair led by professional hairdressers and beauticians, as well as education and training providers at Lewisham College on Wednesday.

Stuart Parker-Tyreman, principal of Vanguard School, said: “From experience we know some autistic young people find taking that next step daunting.

“That is why partnerships like this one with Lewisham College are important, for giving students the opportunity to experience a busy campus, and have a taste of what study, and a career, in Hair and Beauty might be like.

“Based on Mr Zahariev’s haircut, I believe we already have some talented barbers in our midst!”
