Students on the run will help ‘Samaritans-type’ support group
University of Westminster students will lace up their trainers for a charity run in support of an organisation that helps individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts.
The Listening Place offers vital face-to-face support for those experiencing a mental health crisis and has been going since 2016.
The run next month – from the Marylebone campus in Baker Street to Kings Cross St Pancreas station – will bring together students of a variety of courses to raise both awareness and much-needed funds.
“We’re running as we want to show that young people can create a real change,” announced Elevate 5, the organizers of the event.
The charity run aims to raise £500, which will go directly towards training volunteers and expanding the charity’s services, particularly opening a fourth site in East London.
“Events like these are crucial,” said John Smith, a long-time volunteer of The Listening Place. “They not only raise funds but also bring people together to break the stigma surrounding mental health.”
University of Westminster lecturers are also expected to attend, adding further support to the cause.
Since its founding, the Listening Place, based at Cambridge Court, 210 Shepherds Bush Road, Hammersmith, has helped thousands find hope through compassionate listening and practical support.
