Teenager jailed for Teon Campbell-Pitter manslaughter after fatal stabbing

A 16-year-old has been convicted of manslaughter after fatally stabbing another boy outside a boxing club last year.

On Wednesday of last week, the teenager was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey. He cannot be named for legal reasons.

It follows his attack on Teon Campbell-Pitter, also 16, who was on his way to the boxing club in New Cross at around 4pm on April 13.

He will be sentenced on February 9.

A second teenager, also 16, was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter.

Police were called to Angus Street following reports of a fight in progress.

Officers responded, along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

Teon was found at the scene close to Fordham Park with stab injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as a stab injury to the abdomen.

Detectives from Specialist Crime launched an investigation to establish what had happened.

They found that Teon was sitting on a bench near the club when he was approached by the two youths and an altercation began, in which Teon sustained fatal injuries. The incident took place in broad daylight in an area busy with people.

The convicted teenager was arrested and charged three days after the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney, who led the investigation, said: “Teon and his attacker were known to each other and were not on good terms following a number of disputes going back some time, that eventually escalated, with deadly consequences.

“Now one young teenage life has been lost and his family’s lives left in pieces, while another boy is going to spend the best years of his life in prison.

“If you carry a knife, I implore you to stop and think. The consequences are not a reality you want, or have to experience.”
