Queen’s Park is busy, bustling and always full of families and children who love the farmers’ market. The market attracts attention for its range of stalls from seasoned traders to hobbyists.

The Bath Soft Cheese Company, a long-term trader at Queen’s Park farmers’ market, is owned and operated by the Padfield family.

The cheeses are supplied to cheese shops, restaurants and delicatessens all over the British Isles and exported around the world, including countries as diverse as Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, the Ukraine and the USA.

One employee said: “Queen’s Park is a strong family community and people here appreciate quality. “People who come here are very conscious of the environment and buy produce from here instead of a supermarket because they know our product is organic and locally-sourced.

We are entirely organic and are registered with Organic Farmers and Growers – so that means no fungicides, pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used on our land.

“Instead we use manure and organic compost – the environment, the land and the waterways remain uncontaminated. “Our milk and cheese is produced in a way that protects our natural world and lets every farm animal feel the sun on its back.”

Queen’s Park Farmers’ Market also houses newer stalls such as the curry paste shop, Rempapa. The husband and wife team started the business, in 2018, working part-time along with their day jobs.

Shu Han Lee, owner and co-founder, said: “We started Rempapa on a whim but it grew more than we expected in just over a year. “I would often make large batches of curry paste and freeze them in serving-sized portions.

“They were a godsend on weeknights. “Or even on special occasions when I wanted to impress my guests. “I realised this was the best way I could enjoy and share the flavours I grew up with to adventurous but time-pressed Londoners.”

“People here at Queen’s Park are particularly appreciative of the fact the we are all organic and all of our products are vegan. “Our spice pastes are carefully developed from and inspired by time-tested family recipes – with taste first in mind.

They contain no nasty preservatives, because we want them to be as good as you would make them yourself.”

The market also hosts a host of event to celebrate produce every month.

Upcoming events include asparagus and strawberries in May, peas in June, cherries in July, apples and plums from August, corn in September, game in October, celery in November, turkeys in December.
