The Festival of Diversity celebration at Millennium Primary School, Greenwich

The bunting went up and Millennium Primary School was transformed into a festival venue with multiple stages, gazebos and a marquee last month.

More than 500 parents, relatives and friends arrived at noon for an afternoon filled with music, dance and fun as their children rocked out on the main stage, performed poetry on the slam stage, sang in choirs, gave speeches and painted faces.

The Festival of Diversity, which was held on July 5 at the school in John Harrison Way, Greenwich, also had a silent disco, a wellbeing and multicultural refreshment area, and display boards and flags of the classes’ themes, including Windrush, gender stereotypes, immigration and cultural and family diversity.

Headteacher Cara Took said: “I’m thrilled at the lovely comments from parents and so proud of the teamwork from the children and staff which created this fabulous event.”

As the afternoon ended the whole school gathered at the main stage to demonstrate their pride in their own diversity as they performed the The Greatest Showman anthem This is Me.
