The houseowner selling his Merton home with a raffle

A homeowner has planned to give away his £400,000 house through a £2 ticket raffle prize draw after struggling to shift it through the conventional method.

 

Daniel Twenefour, 29 from Merton has set up a raffle prize draw for the grand prize of his newly refurbished three-bedroom-house based in Mitcham, valued at over £400,000.

 

The 29-year-old bought the house when he got married last year, but found its location not best suited for the newlyweds – and they decided to put it back on the market.

But potential buyers kept pulling out and the housing market’s lockdown have led to a change of tactics – and Daniel put his new plan of a raffle prize draw into effect.

 

A minimum target of 200,000 tickets each priced at £2 needs to be reached in order for the homeowner to hand the property over. The property will be transferred to the randomly drawn winner free of stamp duty and legal fees.

A percentage of the earnings collected from the raffle tickets will be donated to charity – Merton’s Jigsaw4u and NHS Charities Together.

Daniel claims if his target is not met by 31st May instead the winner will get 90% of the earnings and 10% will go to his fees built from organising the raffle prize draw.

 

The approx 988 sq feet house consists of double glazed windows, kitchen/dining room, two bedrooms, a master bedroom, a bathroom and an approx 30 feet garden.

 

Daniel said: “I got it for cheap, so it was rundown and needed refurbishment. I did it up, then I got married, and then my wife and I decided that the area is probably not for us.

 

“The area is best for a commuter – it’s just off the main road, it’s just opposite the tram stop. But for us, we wanted somewhere a bit leafier and a bit quieter.

 

“This has just been going on for 8 months – I will put it on the market, take it off, put it on the market, take it off. Then Brexit happened, and then people weren’t buying and now coronavirus. Now the housing market is on hold, you can’t buy a property at the moment.

 

“So I looked at all possible options and I came across the whole concept of house raffling. I read up on some success stories – very few probably, like two or three, in the last few years in the UK.

 

“So I kind of looked into the pros and the cons, and then I just thought to myself just try it, just go for it and see what happens.

 

“When I initially told my family and friends I was doing this, they thought I was crazy. My mum looked at me like ‘Are you okay?’. So they were a bit sceptical about it, but they kind of know how I am. Once I’m determined to do something I’m going to do it – I will see it through.”

“It’s completely open to the public. There is a list of countries I can’t accept buyers from – it’s on the website. But apart from that, it’s completely open. In terms of how I’m actually going to choose the winner, it will be randomly drawn electronically.

 

“I plan to do it online. It’s going to be on June 1. There will be a solicitor on the call and it will be done live. I might decide to do it on Facebook, Instagram or Youtube live – I’m not too sure yet. I’m also planning to have a journalist on that call too, just to certify there’s nothing dodgy going on, it’s completely valid and genuine.

“I’m already near 50% of my sales.

“I’m very hopeful – I’ve got a lot of faith and the response has been fantastic.”
