The Tab Church in Lewisham collect over £1,500 worth of back to school items for the community

A church has collected more than £1,500 worth of back to school items for the community to use.

Congregation members and visitors of The Tab Church in Algernon Road, Lewisham came together to collect shirts, skirts, trousers, shoes, socks, stationery items, school bags and backpacks which were donated to aid and support vulnerable families.

“It takes a village,” said Rose Griffiths, who heads the department responsible for community outreach at The Tab Church.

“Our team works closely with a number of vulnerable groups in and around the borough and witness on a daily basis the heartbreaking situations people experience.”

Senior Pastor, Mike White (main pic), said: “It truly warms my heart to see the vast number of items donated. We’re here to make a difference in people’s lives.

“Ministry isn’t confined to the four walls of the church, and the aim of our outreach initiatives is to demonstrate the gospel and love in action. It’s the very fabric of our church. We call it ‘people helping people’.

“We believe it is always part of our mission as the church to extend ourselves in a very practical way to the disenfranchised people of our community and city, serving our community and beyond.”

The collection was co-ordinated by REACH – the community action initiative of The Tab Church – whose focus is helping the community and those in need.
