‘The violence against officers was some of the worst I’ve seen’: Police appeal to identify five people after protest
The Met want to identify five people after a protest in Camberwell descended into “some of the worst” violence against officers police had seen.
More than 100 people, some armed with sticks and missiles, attacked the Lighthouse Theatre in Camberwell Road, Camberwell, during an Eritrean demonstration on December 30, 2023.
So far 44 people have been arrested for a number of offences relating to the demonstration.

Detective Superintendent Sian Thomas said: “The level of violence used against officers, who were there to keep the public safe and protect people in a theatre, is some of the worst I have seen.
“There are still a number of suspects that we need the public’s help to identify.
‘“If you recognise any of the people we are looking to identify, email us or call 020 8246 9386 to talk with a detective. Also quote the image reference number of the person you are identifying.
“Or you can report to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote Operation Wickies.”
