Thousands delayed as lorry hits rail bridge near Herne Hill Station

BY WILLIAM BOARDMAN

Thousands of passengers were affected when a lorry struck a rail station.

The vehicle collided with a railway bridge near Herne Hill Station on Half Moon lane at around 10:51am today, causing trains to and from London from West Dulwich and Sutton to be delayed.

Delays were caused by extensive safety checks, which have to take place every time a vehicle strikes a railway bridge, according to the National Rail.

The lines are now clear and trains are running normally.

A train from London Charing Cross to Dover Priory as cancelled at Victoria Station at 11:40am due to a “fault with the signalling system”.
