Three hospitalised after car collides with restaurant front
Three people have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into the front of a restaurant last night.
The collision took place at the junction of Coventry Street and Haymarket, near Piccadilly Circus, at around 6.50pm.
Police, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews attended the scene.
Firefighters freed one person, who was trapped inside the car, using cutting gear to remove one of the vehicle’s doors.
They were taken to hospital by LAS crews, along with the driver and a pedestrian.
A spokesman from the Met said: “Witnesses reported a car mounted the pavement before colliding with a building.
“Two people – a pedestrian and a passenger who was in the car – were taken to hospital for treatment.
“The driver of the car was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
There were no reports of any other injuries. At this time the incident is not being treated as terrorist related, police said.
Road closures remain in place around the scene.
The LFB sent two fire engines from Soho fire station and two fire rescue units from Euston and Battersea fire stations to the scene.
