Four independent book shops among those in line for national recognition
Four independent book shops have been shortlisted for the The British Book Awards 2024 Independent Bookshop of the Year.
Round Table Books CIC in Granville Arcade, Brixton, Village Books in Calton Avenue, Dulwich, Backstory in Balham High Road and The Riverside Bookshop in Tooley Street, Southwark, are among 10 in London to make the shortlist.
One in central London is also nominated – Goldsboro Books Limited in Cecil Court, Charing Cross.
British Book Awards organisers said independent book shops across the United Kingdom and Ireland continue to thrive with creative, specialist and community-centred activities boosting sales in the face of the cost-of-living and business rates crises.
The book shops will compete to win their region first, which will be announced on Tuesday, March 12, before contending for the overall prize, announced at The British Book Awards winner ceremony at Grosvenor House on Monday, May 13.
A spokeswoman for British Book Awards said: “The award is a great opportunity to celebrate those stores that continue to support their local communities with bespoke bookselling and tailored initiatives.”
