Tooting cancer patient appeals for funding for charity which supported her
A cancer patient has expressed her thanks to the charity which supported her – and appealed for donations.
The charity fundraiser Omaze – also championed by Daniel Craig, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Lawrence – is also offering the chance to win a £1million house to raise essential funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).
Lockdown has burned a £2millin hole in the CT’s finance. Its outreach nurses are under threat, as well as its specialist units at University College Hospital London and Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton.
Angel Shepherd-Bascom, pictured above, 22, from Tooting, was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in August 2018.
She was treated at nearby St George’s Hospital and was helped by one of TCT’s clinical nurse specialists.
She said: “Living with cancer is tough. You don’t feel like you and you often feel alone.
“Going through cancer whilst the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic adds an extra layer of emotion and the feeling of isolation is magnified.
“I’ll always be grateful for the support I received from TCT at one of the toughest moments in my life.
“Claire, the TCT nurse who supported me, was with me from my diagnosis, and throughout my whole journey.
“She helped me understand my treatment, reminded me about appointments, and came along with me.
“The Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations and they want to keep supporting young people through this crisis and beyond, which is why the funds raised through the Omaze house draw are so vital.
“Young people who are starting or still on their cancer journey will need their support more than ever right now. By getting involved you could make a big difference to the lives of young people with cancer.”
