‘Tour de Bexley’ charity bike ride takes place May 2020 in aid of young people and families

Two men are organising a charity bike ride in a bid to help young people and their families.

Lee Dolby, 56, of Eltham, and Dave Simpson, 46, of Bexley, call it the ‘Tour de Bexley’ and it starts in Brighton and ends in Bexley.

The ride will take place next May, and all money raised will go towards Bexley Snap and the Bexley Moorings Project, two charities that help young people and their families in the area.

Last year they raised £14,000 and 39 riders took part.

Dave, who with Lee recently reopened a historic pub, said: “It makes great sense to support small local charities who get overlooked by the general masses as a worthwhile cause to donate to, while offering amazing support to local youngsters and their families.

“We chose Bexley Moorings because I had heard of them when I volunteered as part of their mentoring service for about a year.

“They suggested that we include Bexley Snap as another worthwhile cause to support.

“We have helped them to grow their visibility to local young people and their families who may benefit from their services.

“We are pleased to have been able to make a difference towards helping them to cover their costs.
“Some of the riders families have benefited from the support of the two charities, as have some of the local businesses who supported the ride as sponsors.”

“Dave and Lee have had a busy year so far. They opened the Lordhill pub in Bexleyheath on October 6.

The pub offers a variety of entertainment nights and is the only pub in the area with a working pinball machine.

Dave and Lee are doing their best to promote local bands and entertainers, and the ride next May goes hand in hand with what they’re doing to give something to the community.

“In organising the bike ride we have also been supported by local business to help cover the costs of running the event, including Bexley Bikes who donated a brand new bike to be raffled off for the good of the cause, Palace Windows, LightGraphix Bexley, SCS Scaffolding and WC Property Maintenance.
