Two inmates charged with murder over killing of HMP Belmarsh inmate in his cell

Detectives have charged two prisoners with the murder of their cell mate at HMP Belmarsh last month.

Steven Hilden, 28, and Terry Jocham, 28, both of no fixed abode, have been charged via postal requisition with murder and are due to appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 March.

On Tuesday, 18 February, 36-year-old Sundeep Ghuman was found with head injuries by prison guards at the South London prison.

Police were called at 8pm that day to reports of an assault within the prison facility.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the location and Mr Ghuman was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he later died on the evening of Wednesday, 19 February.

A post-mortem examination took place at Greenwich Mortuary on Friday, 21 February and gave cause of death as a head injury.

Hillman and Jocham were arrested on 18 March and subsequently charged as above.
