Two taken to hospital after group armed with gun break into venue

Two men were taken to hospital and five men have been arrested after a group forced entry into a building with a gun and other weapons yesterday morning.

At around 4am officers on patrol became aware of an aggravated burglary that had taken place at a venue in Lee High Road, Blackheath.

Officers, including armed officers and a police helicopter, were called to the scene.

A number of men reported they had been inside the venue playing a card game when a group, armed with weapons including a firearm, forced their way inside.

Various items were stolen, including cash and jewellery, before the suspects fled the scene.

Two men were taken to hospital for treatment for injuries they sustained during the incident. Neither of then men’s injuries are life-threatening.

Five men, all aged in their 20s, were arrested close to the scene.

A statement from the Met said: “A holdall containing a firearm and a quantity of class-A drugs was recovered from a parked car, and a second holdall, containing items believed stolen, was also recovered nearby.

“All five have been arrested for offences including possession of a firearm, aggravated burglary and possession with intent to supply class A drugs. They all remain in custody.

“Detectives from the Flying Squad are investigating the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

“Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD843/17Jul. You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
