Two treated by ambulance crews for burns and smoke inhalation after fire in block of flats

A man and a woman were treated by ambulance crews after a fire broke out in a block of flats yesterday afternoon.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the scene in Lindsay Square, Pimlico, at around 4.15pm.

A six-roomed flat on the third floor of the five-storey building was partially damaged by fire.

One woman suffering burns to the hand and smoke inhalation and one man suffering smoke inhalation were treated on-scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

Firefighters from Lambeth, Soho and Clapham fire stations brought the fire under control by around 6pm.

The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by sunlight reflecting off of a makeup mirror.

A London fire brigade (LFB) spokesman said: “These sorts of fires are not as rare as you would think.

“They can happen all year around, but as we head into summer and the sun gets stronger, it’s really important that reflective items such as mirrors, crystals and glass ornaments are kept out of direct sunlight.”
