Voluntary Services Lewisham ensures isolated and lonely individuals do not miss out this Christmas with Tesco Bags of Help scheme
It can be easy to get carried away with the fun and festivities at Christmas.
But Voluntary Services Lewisham will be ensuring that isolated and lonely individuals do not miss out, with its Christmas hamper project.
Thanks to a donation from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme, the volunteers will have plenty of goodies to pack into hampers that will bring some festive cheer to disadvantaged families and lonely individuals who are struggling over Christmas.
Bags of Help, launched in 2015 allows Tesco customers to vote each time they shop for three local projects to receive community grants.
Voluntary Services Lewisham was one of projects voted for in Lewisham to receive funding.
They got £1,000, which will go towards food to go into the hampers for individuals, and also vouchers that will go in with hampers that are given to families.
Bettina Ganser, from the charity, said: “I enjoy the project and have been part of it for the past 14 years as a volunteer.
“It gives back to the community and makes people’s lives easier at what can be a difficult time.”
Bags of Help has provided more than £80million to over 27,000 local community projects.
Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities.
